According to a survey made by the Washington-based Population Reference Bureau, issues related to "mangrove development and conservation appear to have the least importance among Filipino journalists covering the environment."The online survey, conducted last year, covered 27 journalists from at least 13 national and regional news outlets.
"Mangroves are a vital component of the marine environment and it’s sad that communities’ effort to preserve or rehabilitate mangrove areas is not so much highlighted in the media," Dr. Jurgenne Primavera, a noted expert on the topic, was quoted as saying in the report.
