Ripping off the rip-off "Pinoy Ako"

The Orange and Lemons rip-off affair has taken several turns and twists a few days after I did my initial post on the issue. Will take them up in a future post (as soon as I finish with the November issue of the PJR Reports).

Meanwhile, here's the newest version of "Pinoy Ako" from Toothpick of Pulp Community. Saw this version too in Rickey's Blog from someone who commented on his post, but I'm using Toothpick's version.

Ripping off another rip-off, here's the song.

Pinoy Ba Ako?
By Ponkan and Calamansi

Lahat tayo ay naging biktima
sa dinig pa lang ay malalaman na
di man ito kagustuhan
ngunit ito ang katotohanan

Original na lyrics ang hanap ko
magbibigay ng paghalaga sayo
Nais mo bang ipakilala
kung sino ka ngang talaga

Pinoy ikaw ay Pinoy
ipakita sa mundo
kung anong ginaya mo
Nahihiyang Pinoy
Wag kang mang gagaya
maging original ka
Pinoy ako Pinoy tayo

Pakita mo ang tunay kung sino ka
wag kang umasa lang sa iba
Kailangan ay perpekto basta ito ay totoo

Original na lyrics ang hanap ko
magbibigay ng paghalaga sayo
Nais mo bang ipakilala
kung sino ka ngang talaga

Pinoy ikaw ay Pinoy
ipakita sa mundo
kung anong ginaya mo
Nahihiyang Pinoy
Wag kang mang gagaya
maging original ka
Pinoy ako Pinoy tayo

Talagang ganyan ang buhay
Wag tayong masanay
walang ring mangyayari kung
kung laging nakikigaya

Wag ipagmalaki ang sarili
kung ito ay yong gawain
“Ang Lagi mong Iisipin
Kayang Kopyahin”

Pinoy ikaw ay Pinoy
ipakita sa mundo
kung anong ginaya mo
Nahihiyang Pinoy
Wag kang mang gagaya
maging original ka
Pinoy ako Pinoy tayo

HINDI KA BA PINOY????

yes, i know. whatever you say, look at the facts. you do not need to be emotional over an issue.

i am a full-bloodeed, 100% pinoy. that's why i am so pissed off at a song that purportedly speaks of we being proud as pinoys, but unfortunately, was a rip-off from a foreign song.

jeez.

the band is basically inspired by the band The Care but still they keep on creating their own sounds..the whole "pinoy Ako" song is really different from "Chandelier" music critics and experts na ang nagsabi na they are two different songs...if you can't shut your mouth try to respect na lang the band kasi they have the skills naman sa music..

Hi there anonymous. You said:

"Im a 100% filipina and im proud of being one....and you know why? it's because of this band... orange and lemons!"

Do you really mean to say that you are proud to be a Pinay just because of Orange and Lemons? Sheesh. What faith in the band. God bless you. May Orange and Lemons succeed for a few years more for you to affirm yourself as a true-blooded Pinay. So, what happens, for example, if after ten years, the Orange and Lemons band fades out of the scene? Would that mean you won't be proud of being a Filipina anymore?

And please, I don't have to ask my mom what "crab mentality" means. I could find it myself in the Internet or in a dictionary. Unless of course, she is the one using the Internet or dictionary at home.

Ad hominem. Ad nauseam.

I am not saying that they don't have the skills in music. They are good, after all. I said in my post (If you actually read it ha, not just skimming over it)that I used to admire the band, because they are also from Bulacan like me and that they offer a different sound in the current market.

Orange and Lemons, not talented? Hell no! Why, if they aren't so talented, they would be able to copy a song from The Care and claim its theirs!

inggit ka lang kasi sumisikat ang kanta..
waha..
orig yun!..
ikaw ang nang ripp-off...

What did I rip-off exactly? Shouldn't you be checking that word in the dictionary?

I guess originality for you depends on various factors.

all the statement you are trying to say ay negative ang dating sakin...parang gusto mo tlgang bumagsak na ang ONL, if you think you're better that them, then beat them, 'di 'yung mang brainwash ng mga tao dito at piliting mawala sa eksena ang ONL with your posts...!!!

kc nga my sumikat....

tigilan ang CRAB MENTALITY.....

I'M NOT AN AVID FAN OF ONL, BUT I DO ADMIT THAT EVEN PBB IS NOT INTRODUCED TO US, THEY CAN STILL MAKE NAME....

PLAIN AND SIMPLE:
EXCELLENT SONGS
TALENT
ATTITUDE
HUMBLENESS

AND I THINK THAT'S ENOUGH!!!

ONL DOESN'T NEED TO EXPLAIN...AND WE DON'T HAVE TO QUESTION EVERYTHING!!!!

Hector Bryant L. Macale said...

Oh? Hahahahaha! I'm not brainwashing! If people think that ONL did not EVER rip off a song from any band in or outside the country, then why should they care if there are rumors like these? I thought you guys believe that I am just suffering from crab mentality now that ONL is popular? So, why should you fear of people getting brainwashed by me?

If people believe 100% that ONL did not do a sin (hmm... why don't we give the band some medals for their outstanding song? or maybe the government should make them the National Band of the Philippines or whatever), then why all this ruckus on the statements we, those who suffer from "crab mentality", made?

You know why Typecast and Session Road fared better on their respective rip-off issues than ONL? Because the ONL song is different -- It encourages (and shouts to the highest heavens) that we Filipinos should be proud of our race, that we should show to the world what we can do. Maybe if Typecast and Session Road made similarly patriotic songs, their issues could have been bigger, much like ONL's.

Anonymous, you said:

"ONL DOESN'T NEED TO EXPLAIN...AND WE DON'T HAVE TO QUESTION EVERYTHING!!!!"

Yeah, they don't need to explain. In fact, the more they explain their way out in this mess, the more they sink deeper!

And I am not questioning them. I am ACCUSING them of plagiarism! Got it?

"ANG HIRAP KC STIN ANG DMING "SMART ALECK"..."

If you're still alluding to me on this statement, thanks. That is a compliment for me. Rather than being a bling fool following wherever the tide goes.

"EVEN IF PBB IS NOT INTRODUCED TO THE FILIPINOS, ONL STILL DO HAVE THE TALENTS, GREAT COMPOSITIONS, ATTITUDE, HUMBLENESS, NUMEROUS FANS...I THINK THAT'S ENOUGH FOR THEM TO MAKE NAME IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY!!!"

Hmmmm. Why is the PBB show included here? PBB is out of the issue. Its connection to the rip off issue is just incidental.

"HIRAP TALGA 'PAG NASA PINAS KA...HANGGA'T MAIBABABA KA...PILIT KANG HIHILAIN PABABA!!!"

The problem with some fans, Pinoy man o hindi, is that they think of their idols as demigods, that they couldn't make mistakes, that they are not humans like every one else. Why can't people rationalize issues? Are rational people in this country just a few?

"BUT I THINK, PAG NARELEASE NA 'YUNG THIRD SINGLE NILA OR EVEN THEIR THIRD ALBUM....THEY CAN GET OUT OF THIS MESS AND PEOPLE WILL EVENTUALLY FORGET THIS STUPID ISSUE!!! (dat is if u'll stop posting in these blogs!)"

Bakit? Babayaran ba ako ng ONL to stop posting whatever i wanted to say in MY blog. Maybe they should make their own blog (You could also do one, and say it's the unofficial blog of ONL. There, spread all your hallelujahs in that blog). In my blog, I whine, rant, and rave on whatever.
